CIE Bride Chat: Meet Sarah!
I am SO excited to be writing this post today about Sarah and Eric! Sarah is the sister of one of my wedding vendor besties, Ruth, of Raise the Ruth Events, so I knew when she approached me about being in charge of her wedding flowers I was going to be in for an amazing wedding!! Sarah and Eric have the most beautiful love story, and I teared up reading this- I bet some of you will too! ;) Sarah has the most stunning color palette and theme for her wedding, and I can't WAIT for you to see all the pictures captured by Chelsea Anderson Photography! Chelsea did such a phenomenal job with their engagement photos, so I had to include a few in this post too! :) So... Meet Sarah and her almost-husband, Eric!!
How did you and your husband-to-be meet?!
I signed my son up to play basketball at the last minute and they placed my son on Eric's team. I noticed him all season, but assumed he wasn't interested in me because we didn't talk to each other during the season other than the normal parent- coach exchanges. On the last night of the season there was a magic show for all of the children and the parents. We stood there awkwardly and I decided to tell him that he looked nice because he had on a snazzy sports coat. We stood around some more and talked to others, the magic show started, the magic show ended, and before I knew it I was on my way home. I drove home thinking that I would have to wait until next basketball season to see him again and I wondered why he wasn't interested in me. At that very moment I received a text from Eric saying that he enjoyed coaching my son and he was wondering if I would like to go to dinner with him sometime. What???!!!! Would I like to go to dinner???? Of course!!!! My exact response to him was " I thought you'd never ask" He was thrilled by that, and the rest is history.
Tell us about how he proposed!
Eric proposed to me at church in front of hundreds of people. He ruptured his Achilles tendon playing basketball this past July. He had been on crutches for months and could not wear a real shoe. Apparently he wanted to wait to propose when he was able to get down on one knee and wear real shoes. That was October 4th. My entire family was there because we all go to church together. I was completely surprised. It was the perfect moment.
Tell us about your wedding: colors, theme, style!
My colors are burgundy, cream, and gold. I've been trying to pin point a style and I would say that it's vintage romantic. I love all things gold and all things lace. I also believe that there is no such thing as too many flowers.
How did you decide on your wedding location?
I think my budget and the amount of people that I wanted at my wedding decided my location. I am having my wedding at the Williamsburg campus of my church, which is absolutely beautiful and free. Since we are not paying for the venue we can afford to feed 200 of our closest friends and have all of the flowers and décor that we ( I ) desire :)
What has been the best part of your wedding planning?
There have been quite a few things that I have enjoyed. First off I'm really busy, so having a wedding planner has been a complete lifesaver. I do not have the time to plan every detail of the wedding and to constantly talk to vendors. The fact that I haven't had to do that has been amazing, and has allowed me to really enjoy the wedding process. Also I have loved seeing my vision come to life, and I love that I haven't compromised on style one bit and no one ever asked me to. There is not one thing that I wanted for my wedding that I do not have. To see it all come together so perfectly and with ease shows that this can be an enjoyable process if you have the right help.
What has been one area of difficulty for your wedding planning?
Choosing a first dance song. We have different taste in music. Eric likes 90's R&B...Not my favorite :)
What are you most looking forward to once you're married?!
We've abstained so..... :) But seriously, what I'm looking forward to the most is taking on the world and having an lasting effect on this generation with my best friend
Are you honeymooning? Where to?!
We're going to New Orleans after Mardi Gras. We're going to eat a lot of beignets and shrip etoufee!
What advice can you share for someone planning their wedding right now?
Just enjoy it. It should be a fun time, not a stressful one. Also stick to what you want, but be willing to pay a little extra for things or styles that are important to you. I'm not saying go beyond your limit, because I didn't do that, but come on, you only do this once :) That being said don't get caught up in comparing yourself to other weddings or things on Pintrest. That's their wedding, and this is yours, so be unique and make it your own. Also please find vendors who are warm, sincere and personable, you never want to be treated like a business deal and I can say that I have worked with the most down to earth and sincere people for my wedding.
