Today's Featured Friendor adores everything sweet!! I loved getting to know Amanda through working with her for a styled shoot we did together, and everything she creates is so perfect!! I can't wait to work with her again, and I know she serves her wedding clients well :) And doesn't she just have the cutest sense of style?! Enjoy getting to know Amanda, of Sorby Sweets, today on the blog!! :)
CIE: Tell me about why you chose to open Sorby Sweets. Did you always have a love for custom wedding cake and dessert design and baking, or did you have an eye-opening experience?
Amanda: I like to say that Sorby Sweets was born from a beautiful series of blessings and an incredible support system. I've always enjoyed being in the kitchen and sharing treats with friends and family but I considered it to be a hobby, not necessarily something that I could grow. After I graduated college, I started to explore formal cake decorating with some encouragement from family, again as a hobby, but once I started to share my experiments, people began to inquire about ordering. At some point during that first year, probably after several post-midnight sessions in my kitchen, I realized how much I absolutely loved it.
CIE: Tell me more about the specific kinds of services you are currently offering for 2016!
Amanda: In 2016 I will continue to offer wedding cakes, cakes for special occasions, and hand-held treats like cupcakes, cake pops, and cookies! Something new that I'm excited to share, though, are French Macarons! I had the opportunity to experiment with some recipes over the summer and will be officially adding them to my menu very soon!
CIE: Tell me about one of your favorite moments while designing/baking wedding cakes.
Amanda: I'm one of the vendors that comes and leaves before the wedding party, guests, and most of the other staff arrive. So, after a delivery I find myself stalking hashtags and social media for a peek of the bride and groom with their cake! One of the best moments for me is seeing people come together around something that I created.
CIE: Tell me something unique about you that very few people know!
Amanda: I was on an education track in school. I was a substitute teacher for a while and began student teaching, but in the middle of my senior year I decided that it wasn't for me.
CIE: List three of your favorite things to do/hobbies besides your job!
Amanda: Eat, exercise, and fill up my love tank with friends and family!
CIE: What is your Starbucks drink of choice? (You can tell a lot about a person by how they answer this question) ;)
Amanda: Truth be told, I'm not a coffee drinker, but I won't ever pass up a Starbucks date! My order is a skinny-peppermint-white-hot chocolate. Haha!
CIE: Anything else you want to add?
Amanda: I believe that cake for breakfast is part of a well-balanced diet!
